HOW CASA IS FUNDED

CASA of Central Virginia is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization. We receive funding from a variety of state, local and public and private funding sources.

Approximately 30% of CASA's annual budget is provided by an allocation from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). The 27 CASA programs in the state of Virginia receive a funding base and then a per child allocation for every child served over 60. CASA of Central Virginia is ranked second in the state due to the high number of children being served - a dubious distinction.

CASA of Central Virginia is proud to be a partner agency of the United Way of Central Virginia. Funding received through the United Way from allocations and from donor designations amounts to 22% of CASA's annual budget.

An additional 10% of CASA's budget is provided by the localities served by CASA volunteers. The City of Lynchburg and Amherst County, Bedford County and Campbell County provide allocations in their annual budgets to support CASA of Central Virginia.

However, CASA must raise 38% of the annual budget from a combination of sources. We must seek contributions from individuals and businesses, civic organizations, and faith communities. Grants are submitted to private foundations for restricted funding for special projects, but the funding of these grants is often competitive and precarious.

The major fundraising event held annually by CASA of Central Virginia is the Heart and Sole Shoe Market. This event held each spring sells new, name brand shoes at drastically discounted prices. The shoes are contributed by shoe companies and the event is staffed by over 100 community volunteers.

WE NEED YOU TO COMPLETE THE CIRCLE OF CARE AND BRIDGE THE GAPS IN OUR FUNDING SOURCES!
