About Heritage High School
Since opening in 1976, Heritage High School has established a rich tradition of excelling in many areas. Heritage has always been a fully accredited high school, as measured by the Virginia SOL standards, and has met all benchmarks as required under the federal No Child Left Behind legislation. Our school has been ranked in the top 5% of high schools for four consecutive years by Newsweek Magazine. No other area school division offers more advanced placement courses than the Lynchburg City Schools. We are proud to be the home of the Central Virginia GovernorÍs School for Science and Technology where central VirginiaÍs brightest students attend daily.
Heritage also offers a wide array of extra-curricular activities so that students may have a complete high school experience. We have thirty-one athletic squads that have won seventy district, thirty-six region, and sixteen state championships in just thirty-two years. We have an additional twenty-five clubs and after school activities in which students can participate. Our Junior Marine Corps R.O.T.C. program was recognized as a National Naval Honor School for the 2007-2008 school year and is recognized as one of the top units in the country.
The mission of Heritage High School, in partnership with the entire community, is to provide an academically appropriate environment where self-disciplined, motivated students can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to develop into responsible citizens who can obtain entry-level jobs or pursue postsecondary education.
We are the home of the Pioneers and our community exemplifies a pioneer spirit. We are very proud of our past and look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence in the future. If you have any questions about Heritage or would like to tour our facility, do not hesitate to contact us.
