A Season of Thanksgiving

The Honorable Judge H. Cary Payne with our nine new CASA advocates.

For the CASA team, this season of thanksgiving officially launched on Tuesday evening at the Lynchburg J&DR Courthouse as the Honorable Judge H. Cary Payne inducted nine new volunteer advocates, each of whom took the oath beginning their journey advocating for and championing children in our community. As long-time volunteers, family members, CASA leaders, and more gathered to celebrate the new inductees, the sentiment “this is my favorite event of the year” could be heard several times. And, throughout the evening, it became clear why, as Judge Payne invited all in attendance to reflect on the adults in each of our respective lives who propelled us further down our paths—and to question where we might be without them. For this is the power of CASA volunteer advocates: they will change a child’s story. We are grateful for our new inductees and for the indelible marks they will undoubtedly leave both on a child’s life and within our larger community.
