Family Pinwheel Planting Project

  • Percival's Island Trail 1600 Concord Turnpike Lynchburg, VA 24504 (map)

We need families to walk, bike, scoot, or skate to various parts of the downtown Lynchburg trail system and plant mini-pinwheel gardens to help us raise awareness about Child Abuse Prevention Month. We will meet at the Percival's Island Trail parking lot (look for the CASA banner). Each family will get a pinwheel kit which will include a set of blue pinwheels, a blue ribbon, and a sign. Your family will choose a location along the trail system (we will have a list) and walk, bike, scoot, or skate to that location to plant your mini garden. We encourage you to take pictures of the whole experience and share them with us at allison@cvcasa.org. Remember - safety first! If you are doing anything other than walking/running - please wear a helmet and knee/elbow pads.

Through this project, we will be raising awareness about the child abuse epidemic in our community and encouraging citizens to speak up and report suspected abuse. By participating in this project, it is a great time for you to talk to your kids about this issue and what to do if someone hurts them. We will give all families some coloring sheets and stickers and some pinwheels to take home. SPOTS ARE LIMITED - Please sign up through the link below (it is free) so we know how many kits to prepare.
