Targeting Social Skills and Executive Functioning in IEPs

Part 5 in a 5-part series on educational advocacy for children of trauma.

Open to the Public

Presented by:

Stephanie Knapp, Education Advocate, Advocates in Education, LLC

Trauma profoundly impacts students' social skills, as well as their executive functioning. While executive functioning skills like organization, planning, sustaining attention are often directly addressed in IEPs or 504 plans, social skills may be less directly targeted but have the potential to derail a child's school experience if not directly supported. We will discuss how to ensure these items are addressed in IEPs and 504 plans to ensure the child successfully builds skills in these areas.

CASA volunteers will earn 2 in-service hours.
