Madison’s Story:
A Tale of Unwavering Advocacy
Madison was only 11 when she entered the Foster Care System. As each of her siblings found new homes and the promise of a brighter future, Madison bounced from foster home to foster home, unable to find a permanent family. The revolving door of people in her life left her skeptical when Angela, her CASA Volunteer, was appointed to her case. But Angela was patient and took on the responsibility of amplifying Madison’s voice. Angela attended Madison’s school meetings, listened to her frustrations, and advocated for services that would allow her to thrive. After 7 long years of foster care, Madison aged out of the system, stepping into a world that felt uncertain and lonely.
However, Angela's commitment didn't waver. Instead, she encouraged Madison to enroll in "Fostering Futures," a voluntary program designed to guide young adults like her toward a brighter future. Madison, hesitant but trusting Angela's judgment, entered the program and requested that Angela continue to be her CASA Volunteer. Angela agreed, continuing to offer guidance on aspects of independent life such as managing credit cards, securing housing, and navigating the intricacies of taxes. Madison embraced Angela's advice with determination and diligence. Today, she stands triumphant—a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with a place to call her own.
Next year, Madison will age out of the Fostering Futures program and will no longer have an assigned CASA Volunteer. Yet, Angela will forever be more than an advocate; she is a mentor and a friend to Madison, and they will continue to stay connected.

Since joining the board in 2017, Joe has been an invaluable asset to CASA. As an employee of Beacon Credit Union, Joe has tirelessly leveraged his connections and influence to secure tens of thousands of dollars in crucial funding for CASA, enabling us to further our mission and support the vulnerable children in our community. Joe has also been actively involved on a personal level, exemplifying true dedication by delivering meals to our volunteers in training. His long-standing commitment to CASA is evident in his roles as board secretary for many years, and his current position as the board vice president, where he continues to demonstrate exemplary leadership and commitment to our cause. Joe Goude is a true champion for CASA, and his exceptional contributions make him highly deserving of this prestigious honor.

This award goes to the volunteers who were recently inducted and who have gone above and beyond in their role to advocate for children. Each advocate manager nominates one or more volunteers annually.
In 2022, we launched a new program called CASA Sidekicks to allow volunteers to help our program without the time commitment it takes to be a volunteer advocate. The CASA Sidekicks program allows anyone to support our organization in a variety of ways such as scanning case files, assisting with mailings, hanging posters in the community, and stuffing bags for events. We are grateful for all of our CASA Sidekicks!

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, we held our 3rd annual CASA Blanca Gala at the historic Virginian Hotel. Thank you to our sponsors, donors, attendees, speakers, and auction item winners for helping us raise more than $81,000 for our mission!
Our Fore the Kids Charity Golf Tournament, sponsored by Beacon Credit Union, was held Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Ivy Hill Golf Club in collaboration with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Virginia. We had a morning and afternoon round with 200 golfers, raising $50,000 to support both nonprofits. We are so grateful to each sponsor, golfer, supporter, and volunteer!
The 9th annual CASA Superhero Run was held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 in downtown Lynchburg on Percival's Island Trail. More than 700 runners and walkers participated in the 5K and 1 mile kids fun run, raising more than $80,000 for our mission! More than 140 volunteers came out to ensure everyone had a SUPER and safe time at the race. We are so grateful to all of our participants, volunteers, and sponsors for making this event possible.

2023 Blair Moseley Corporate Excellence Award Recipients
Pinnacle Financial Partners and Bald Guy & Associates
This award was established in 2017 in memory of former CASA board member, Blair Moseley. The award honors the legacy Blair left to CASA of Central Virginia. With a clear vision of the future and the need to secure funding and ensure sustainability, Blair helped to establish the Heart and Sole Shoe Market.
Through her connections in the shoe industry and with Consolidated Shoe Company, the first shoe sale was held in the spring of 1999 and brought in $6,000. The event continued to grow and one year brought in a record-setting $86,000. Although the event was retired in 2022, it will remain Blair’s legacy for CASA. We are grateful for Blair's vision and for Consolidated Shoe Company's support through the years, which raised nearly $1 million for our mission.
Each year, this award is given to the companies and organizations that have gone above and beyond to support our mission and assist in efforts toward long-term financial sustainability for our program.
